Miss Pole Dance was created with the objective and vision to challenge public perception of pole dancing and show that pole dancing is an extremely challenging sport as well as a graceful and impressive art. In order to achieve this goal the performances showcase (with absolutely no nudity) fantastic aerial moves and amazing dance styles to demonstrate the ultimate fitness routines.
The first Miss Pole Dance Competition took place on August 29, 2003 in the Netherlands, and was made up of participants from France, Germany, Poland and Spain, among other countries. Miss Yocoima Gutierrez of Venezuela won the title.
Miss Pole Dance UK 2005 was the first year the UK saw a professionally organised competition, a collaborative event by Nicky Taylor of Cardio Pole, Kay Penney owner of Pole Passion Ltd and Sam Kirlie of ShakenSwing. The competition was held in the cosmopolitan City of Brighton and was a huge success with the venue being sold out to an equally mixed audience of 700 people. Elena Gibson won the title with her breath taking elegant performance.
Our mission has been to open closed minds and open the doors for the everyday women (and man) to see what such a beautiful dance form this is. Pole dance fitness is now extremely popular and growing in popularity around the world as more women see this as an exciting fitness routine, and this is partially thanks to the regular media attention from exposure of National Competitions from Miss Pole Dance (UK) who since 2005 has kept the competition alive through regular competitions and growth in innovation.
In 2006 the competition rules tightened due to the seriousness of this competition in the quest for the dance and exercise to be taken seriously. The 9 week Pole Dancing Festival, the first in the world and held throughout the summer in the surfing capital of Newquay, a challenging task to really put pole dancing on the map with the finals held on 31 August 2006. 10 finalist performing for the prestigious title of Miss Pole Dance UK 2006 with the winner and 2006 title holder going to Tracey Simmonds
Miss Pole Dance UK 2007 saw further innovation and new categories were introduced ~ Glamour, fitness and doubles. This was televised for national broadcast on Freeview and Sky. Still dominated by the glamour entries however the fitness was now becoming more recognised. This is the first time a competition had seen doubles competing. This prestigious title won by Genevieve Moody and Susie Walsh and the closely fought Miss Pole Dance 2007 title winner ~ Sally Ann Giles.
